Northside jam in July

It was a cold night at Geebung Bowls Club, and a small but hardy band of players enjoyed two hours of fun. The Northside jam is on the fourth Wednesday of the month – and we wondered if some regulars thought it was on next week (the 29th) which is the fifth Wednesday in July. If this was you, don’t turn up next week.
The jam started with The Grandees – Rodney (his debut at a jam on percussion), Rose, Graham and Kevin with a Bob Dylan set. For many of us these were the songs of our youth. We belted out Hey Mister Tambourine Man and other favourites.
Totally Insane Ukes - Derek, Donna and Kevin led a set full of variety. Some challenging chords and arrangement mixed with simpler songs we could all play. We sang the Unicorn song in recognition of the mascot for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. You’re probably as likely to see a unicorn in Scotland as the Loch Ness Monster.
Andrew and Peter finished the night (with Derek on bass). They each chose 4 songs from their past jam sets. Everyone belted out It’s a Heartache and Cat Steven’s Wild World.
Next Northside jam is on 26 August (there are only four Wednesdays in August).
