Coorparoo 2 July

By Max Borchardt A great night at Coorparoo Bowls Club as forty-five brave strummers challenged the elements to turn up for three fantastic sets and a quad of Open Mics.

Julie Sharpe ran a small beginner's class, then MC and Host, Max from Toowong led a fun first set of songs including two John Prine covers Let’s Talk Dirty in Hawaiian and Dear Abby, to kick the evening off.

First Open Mic was performed entirely on Bass Ukes, with three stars, Simon Carter, Amanda Allwood, and Adrian Board delivered a wonderful rendition of Fever, demonstrating the versatility of our members and the joys of being “All About the Bass.” Stephen Sandilands then sang a wonderful “Wondering Why” by the Red Clay Strays, displaying his excellent musicianship and his lovely voice.

Blair Marks, brought a smile to our faces with his traditionally eclectic collections of songs, and his keen fashion sense.

BUMS members were then entertained by Julie Sharpe and Bob Dylan’s “Blowing in the wind”, and Graham Hall stepped in with a zippy Calypso Version of Fly me to the moon. The night was capped off by David Hethorn playing a broad selection of cover songs, with the “Travelling Singstas” joining him and Simon Carter on Bass for an unforgettable version of You’re the One that I want, and The Pink Pony Club.

Some of us drove home that night with a smile on our faces, and Pink Pony Club in our heads!
