December 11 – a day to remember
14th December 2024
By Peter Grace
Last Wednesday we held 2 jams. The final Westside daytime jam of the year was led by Sue and Peter Sercombe. Over 40 members and friends celebrated another successful year of ukeing and singing. Sue and Michelle prepared home-prepared rum balls for the attendees.
In the evening, the regulars from the Ferny Grove jam and those from the Northside jam got together at Geebung for the annual Northside Christmas Spectacular. It was the biggest and loudest jam ever held at the Geebung Bowls Club with about 100 (we lost count) attendees. With six sets led by different groups, 50 members got up on stage to help lead the jam.
We have 300+ members in BUMS, so that means we had almost half of BUMS jamming on the same day.
Thanks to Margaret Zordan and Judi Goldspink for posting on BUMS Online. Here’s what they wrote.
What a very festive night at the Northside Christmas Spectacular! Held this year at the Geebung Bowls Club, it was definitely a night of great music, delicious food, wonderful friends and a fantastic celebration of the year!
Donna and Derek kicked off the night with their group of beginners from Ferny Grove. This was their first time performing and they did a great job, singing 3 Aussie Christmas songs, including the slightly dubious 'Frosty the Yobbo'.
Lindas Uke'n'Sing followed with 3 more Christmas songs, finishing up with a big favourite 'Feliz Navidad'.
Things livened up a bit next with The Ferny Groovers performing some great rocking numbers, including 'Echo Beach', 'What's Up' and 'Venus'.
Our 4th group to take the stage were Numbums who did a great job with a mix of songs, including 'Silent Night' and 'Silver Bells'.
Spare Parts were up next, performing some more unusual Christmas Songs. 'Let's twist again at Christmas' and 'Monsters Christmas Day' were definite favourites.
Finally, Andrew and Kev took to the stage for the remaining time, singing Bambino and 'Who's gonna' make the Gravy?', a great way to finish the night.
Big thanks to Geebung Bowls Club for hosting our Christmas Spectacular and also to Little Nonya for their absolutely delicious finger food!
Don't forget.... there is no Ferny Grove Jam, and no Northside Jam this month. Have a Happy and safe Christmas and see you all in January
