Planetarium gig revisited at Coorparoo

8th November 2024

“The thing about the ukulele is that you can go to a jam, you get to play, and sing along, no matter how good or bad you are, and you have fun. You play in a group with good leaders and it usually sounds pretty good. You can’t do that with any other instrument in the same way.”

The earlier start time of 6.30 worked well with a good crowd and most people staying to the end of the jam. Thanks to everyone who worked to create and run the event especially Adrian Board who came up with the idea.

The lucky 67 people in attendance at the Coorparoo Jam on Wednesday the 6th of November were treated to a fantastic night of entertainment and strumming. As a tribute to Peter Ransom, we played one of his earliest BUMS performance pieces, My Little Grass Shack, led by Adrian Board and MC Max Borchardt.

BUMS members were then wowed by the Ukulele Saints, Caroline Haig, Leanne Williams, and Peter Grace who brought us a fine selection of songs.  Caroline’s keyboard on Eleanor Rigby impressed and ELO’s Don’t Being Me Down finished the set with a bang.  The audience joined in with enthusiasm.

After the break, participants were entertained by the Ukulele Under the Stars performance band who played the set they had played at the Planetarium last year. There are not enough superlatives to describe the performance or the atmosphere of the night. In a long set running for 75 minutes, BUMS members were entertained with 15 superb songs about the moon, the stars and everything. One happy strummer said - “I feel like I’ve been to a real concert”

Band members have not yet come up with a real name… but Simon Carter has proposed the Planeteers. Adrian Board, Tony O’Callaghan, Amanda Allwood, and Cath McCourt have yet to respond to this proposal.

Next Cooparoo jam is a Christmas Special (Jingle BUMS) on 4 December.
