Generous gift from Canada

In August, we were contacted by Joan Lee, from Hamilton in Canada.  She and her husband had been travelling in Australia for a month and had bought an Enya soprano ukulele. They didn’t want to take it home, so Joan was looking for a good home for it and offered it to BUMS.

It’s made of carbon fibre and is an ideal travelling uke.  More details here.

The Offer

Peter Grace showed it off at the Northside jam on 28 August and asked if anyone knew a beginner player who would benefit from such a cool-looking uke.

BUMS member Judy Pendse came forward and said her granddaughter Sophie borrowed her uke when she went for ukulele lessons.  She was progressing well, and it was her seventh birthday on 1 September.

The ukulele was loaned to Sophie to keep as long as she kept playing.  If she bought another ukulele or gave up playing, she was asked to give it back to BUMS so it could be lent out again.

Feedback

From Judy

Sophie thinks the Uku is amazing and used it at last week’s lesson. She seems to be learning faster than her brother, who has been learning fingering on his kid’s guitar.  Sophie lasted longer in the lesson because of the special Uku.

I am having Uku lessons with Donna Farrell (from BUMS) and we will be playing for a morning tea at Bernie Brae and I’m going to use the new Uku. I’m sure it will get a lot of use.  Thankyou Joan and BUMS’.

We look forward to seeing you at a jam soon Sophie.
