Sunday Jam at Flat Lizard Brewing

12th April 2023
By BUM's
We now have a new home for the 2nd Sunday of the month jam. The Scratch Bar in Milton closed in January. Organisers Andrew Hunt and Blair Marks have found a craft brewery in Stafford for future jams – Flat Lizard Brewing. The April jam will be on Sunday 16 March (not Easter Sunday) from 12.30 to 2.30pm. The bar will be open (of course). The brewery organises food trucks for snacks and meals in the late afternoon.

New venue for the ex-Scratch Jam

We now have a new home for the 2nd Sunday of the month jam. The Scratch Bar in Milton closed in January. Organisers Andrew Hunt and Blair Marks have found a craft brewery in Stafford for future jams – Flat Lizard Brewing. The April jam will be on Sunday 16 March (not Easter Sunday) from 12.30 to 2.30pm. The bar will be open (of course).  The brewery organises food trucks for snacks and meals in the late afternoon.

Andrew and Blair run a casual jam/gig aimed at intermediate players (though beginners are welcome). There are open mic opportunities, and all songs are projected onto a screen. Come and give it a try!

And it’s free!  Everyone is welcome – bring your uke, sing or just be entertained.  We ask that you support the venue by trying out their beers, (as well as wines and other drinks).

The name Flat Lizard

The name flat lizard has nothing to do with roadkill but refers to the Aussie expression ‘flat out like a lizard drinking’, meaning going full bore, or really busy. It is surmised that the expression came from desert-living lizards, like the thorny devils. These lizards absorb water through their skin by flattening themselves against moist sand.

Location

The brewery is located on Webster Road, Stafford just opposite BUMS sponsors Morris Brothers Music Store. If you are travelling north on Webster Rd (coming from The Grange), Flat Lizard Brewing is on the left just before the traffic lights at Wolverhampton Street. You can turn left into the car park.

If you are going south on Webster Rd coming (from Stafford Rd), the brewery is on the right just after Morris Brothers Music Store. It’s set back a bit with a car park in front. You can’t drive in going south due to the central reservation. Instead turn right at the traffic lights by Morris Brothers into Wolverhampton St, turn first left (Harvton St) and follow the road round to the end and you’ll see a big painted wall – it’s there.

The brewery has a large open area for drinkers and jammers which will be great for a gathering of ukulele players.
