June was the Monster SEQ Uke Jam!

For the month of June we hosted the first ever Monster SEQ Uke Jam! Our fellow ukulele players from Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast joined us for the evening.

What a fantastic night we all had! There will be photos to share soon, and, of course, we will be doing this again sometime very soon.


Draft agenda with rough timing …

  1. 7.00pm:intro remarks – BUMS welcome and introduce everyone – BUMS/ SCUM / GCUP
  2. 7.10pm: intro remarks from  SCUM – who we are/how we operate etc
  3. 7.15pm: Intro remarks from GCUP – who we are/how we operate etc
  4. 7.20pm: All play maybe 6 x “standards” previously sent /posted on web site as an ‘ice-breaker’ jam (could play 2 x songs suggested by each group)
  5. 7.40pm: each group perform “showcase numbers ” (max x 3 ea)
  6. 8.10pm:“open mic show-off” for individuals/duo’s/small groups
  7. 9.00pm: closing


The homework is pretty easy;

  • For point 4 “ice-breaker Standards Jam” each club will need to decide on and send/post 2 x standard songs (easy, sing –along types that most people will know or find it easy to learn)
  • For point 5 you might want to rehearse a couple of numbers to showcase your group
  • For point 6 its whoever feels like playing a song for everybody else. At about 3 mins per song that allows for roughly 15 songs/performers.

BUMS on TV!

Recently, we were interviewed and filmed to appear on Queensland’s ABC Stateline.

And we appeared on Friday 30 April 2010 7.30pm.

Welcome to B.U.M.S – May

Join the Big Uke Jam.

Brisbane Ukulele Musicians Society (B.U.M.S.) is a casual gathering of ukulele players, from beginners to advanced to people who just appreciate the joy of uke! We meet at 7pm on the first Monday of each month for a casual jam session, skills sharing and musical fun.

Our next scheduled meeting is Monday 3 May.

Where: The Studio @ Hook – 10/49 Butterfield St, Herston. See a map in Where is B.U.M.S.?

When: 7pm until 9.30-ish

Bring: A smile, drinks, friends and a ukulele.
